Room 21 Register – 10/25/19

Greetings all,

This week in ELA students completed their literature circle novels & meetings. They are now ready to start working on their reading unit’s final project: the Character Bag. The project is due November 8th, and students have been provided with the rubric that will be used, a suggested timeline for work completion, and an organizer to get the ball rolling on brainstorming artifacts for the bag.

In social studies, students gained background knowledge about early hominids in the Stone Age. They practiced vocabulary and were assigned to a “band”, which is the small-group team they will be working in throughout our simulation – including on Tuesday during Primitive Day. Speaking of Tuesday, please ensure your child is dressed for the weather, as we will be outside unless there is thunder/lightning.

Lastly, please join me in marking a calendar for the Multicultural Parent Advisory Council’s potluck event, taking place on November 14th. This annual event focuses on a different culture within the PCCS community each year, with this year’s potluck highlighting our Muslim community as we celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif (or the Birth of the Prophet Mohammad). The potluck is a great opportunity for social studies connections, where students could see first-hand a modern celebration of culture that they could compare/contrast to American culture. If attending, please RSVP using this link; contact Mr Freeman (rfreeman@pccharterschool.org) if you have any questions or would like to learn more.
