Today, we had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Ryerson Woods! Both our class and Ms. Johnson’s class went today. Mrs. Jeffery’s and Mrs. Barnett’s classes will be going next week.
After lunch and recess, we took the bus to the Brushwood center at Ryerson Woods. We met with our teachers and began our exploration! For the first part of the visit, we went into the art gallery and learned about botany, botanists, and botanic artists. There were some really great pencil drawings and paintings of plants. We used that as inspiration as we went out of the center with a new nature journal provided by the center. We then had a journaling time. The teachers were really impressed by how well the students did.
After our journaling time, it was time to go on the trail. We went on a trail tale walk featuring the book Winter is Coming. Not only did we get to read the book as we went along, but we also got to see a lot of neat things…even a larva in an acorn. When we finished our walk, it was snack time…and we were able to play in the leaves for a bit! Make sure to ask your student what their favorite part of the field trip was.
