Newsletter – Week of 2//10/20
I hope everyone had a Happy Valentines Day! Here’s our kindergarten news of the week:
Your child brought home a sight word plate to review all of the sight words from the second trimester. Please help your child gain reading confidence by practicing their sight words with them. They will be assessed on these words during the week of February 25th.
On Thursday, Ms. Naomi took the students on a winter scavenger hunt. They looked for items such as an animal home, something frozen, something red, etc. Ms. Naomi encouraged the students to be aware of their outdoor surroundings, appreciating the sights, sounds, and textures of the outdoor world. The kids enjoyed playing in the newly fallen snow even though it was cold!
The kids had a fun Valentine’s Day! The school wide PBIS celebration was first thing in the morning, and the students enjoyed jumping in the bouncy houses, dancing, playing on the scooters, and more. Then after lunch it was time for the Valentines Party. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Ricchio and all of the parents that helped coordinate and/or donate items to the party and helped run the PBIS celebration. We couldn’t do it without you!
Academic notes: The students learned about making correct punctuation this week, including the period, exclamation mark, and question mark. The students also continue to practice their handwriting skills with both letters and numbers, and writing their first and last name accurately. When you work with your child at home, guide them to make only the first letter of their name uppercase. Also, when writing sentences, remind them that only the first letter of the sentence is uppercase, and punctuation goes at the end of every sentence.
In Math, the kindergarteners are learning more about coins and adding on to find a total. They learned a new math work station called, Which Coin Will Win, which familiarizes the students with the penny and nickel. They continue to practice writing the numbers from 1 – 20(it is okay to have number reversals at this point).
