Newsletter – Week of 11/4/19

What a busy week at school we had! Thank you for your patience and flexibility this morning during the emergency closing. The village is working hard to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

In the classroom the students have been busy reviewing the letter names and sounds and the trimester sight words. They have been practicing rhyming words and blending sounds. Your child decorated a sight word paper plate for reviewing the trimester one sight words. The kids will be assessed on the words late next week. I hope you enjoy practicing reading with your child 🙂

The students have also been finishing up their informative writing stories, and are developing skills to sound out their words to write them on the page. In math, the students are learning about two and three dimensional shapes and how to tell them apart. They continue to practice adding within ten with a new work station, Beat You to Ten.

A word about the weather: Thank you for helping your child to be prepared in the chilly weather! That outer gear makes a big difference in their comfort outside as they participate in environmental education and outdoor learning and fun.

Please remember to send in a cold weather set of indoor clothing for your child’s locker. We will send home the warm weather set.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Next Friday, 11/15, is the last day of the first trimester. It is hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving along! The students are showing so much growth, not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. As I look back at Seesaw pictures from August, the kids already look older since then!

I would love to meet with you to discuss your child’s growth. Conferences will be held on Monday, November 25th from 2 – 7 pm, and on Tuesday, November 26th from 2 – 4 pm.

An invite for conference sign ups will be emailed to you next Friday, November 15th at 1:30. Your conference will be for 15 minutes and is for parents only. However, I will have a chair and some books outside the classroom if you choose to bring your child along.

Owl Prowl Opportunity

Yesterday you received an email asking you to fill out a questionnaire about a potential Owl Prowl event. Please fill out the questionnaire when you get the chance. Mrs. Parker and I would love to host the kindergarten families for an evening of fun learning about owls!
