Math

The students continued through Unit 1 in math where they learned about factors and prime numbers. The students will be continuing to work through this unit throughout this week and the upcoming ones. I have the students leave their Home Connections books at home, bringing me the homework sheets as they are completed. I will try and allow for little to no homework in math on the weekends.

Reading

I have been reading interactive-read-alouds books such as The Dunderheads, The Other Side, and Better Than You throughout the week. I generally try to read a few books per week in order to work on reading skills. I will soon be conducting an individual reading assessment during reading time.

Writing

Over the past week, the students participated in a writing workshop where we discussed the elements of writing at a 4th grade level. The students will continue this workshop in the upcoming weeks.

Science and Environmental Education

The students had many opportunities to spend time outside since school started. Last Tuesday in class the students made scientific observations with Phenology. They will continue to make these scientific observations about plants and animals throughout the year.

During our science time, we are learning about the prairie. We have been researching in detail about different plants and animals in the prairie on the website eekwi.org in order to create a mural that all 3rd and 4th grade classes worked on together.
