Life After Earth Week

Dear Parents,

Our Earth Week was filled with a lot of fun as well as time to reflect on ways we can enjoy and take care of our environment. Ask your child what they enjoyed most about the week! Some projects such as the Model of a Tiny Home and the Kindness Rocks are still ongoing in both classrooms so we will extend both of those activities into the week ahead.
This week in ELA we will finish our poetry unit with a final draft of one or two of the poems we’ve already written in rough draft form. This final draft will be due on Friday. We will also have a vocabulary test on Amazing Adjectives – word list was assigned in Google Classroom – on Thursday. Spelling tests will be given on Tuesday for Prodigies, SBSN Spellers, Teletubbies, Puppies, and Tacocats.
In social studies, we will continue to read about the seven continents and prepare to choose countries for our Taste of the World research project. Please consider helping your child choose a country (and possibly an alternate or two) they would be interested in learning more about as well as preparing a dish (to share with the school) from that country. Selections will be made by the end of this week and our Taste of the World event will by held on Monday, May 20th.
Our 5th grade Boot Camps have been preparing us well for our upcoming camping trip on May 29-31. Each student has written their own copy of the routines and expectations for the trip. Please review this important information with your child and sign the copy they’ve written. The remaining cost of the Warren Dunes trip is $105. Additionally, we have planned our annual canoe trip for June 5th. Payment of $20 allows for transportation and guided canoeing at Skokie Lagoons. Please submit a combined payment of $125 to PCCS by May 15th.  You are welcome to contact Kim DiSalvo in the business office if you would like to set up a payment plan. Click here for information on how to pay online.
And finally, please look for two forms coming home this week. One is a waiver for the canoe trip mentioned above and the other is a permission form for an upcoming presentation on puberty (May 13th) by the staff from the Robert Crown Center for Health Education. Please sign and return both forms at your earliest convenience.
