Hello Fall!

I hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy the fall temperatures this week-end. Days like this make fall my favorite season of the year!
As Mr. Hurwitz mentioned on Friday, we are looking forward to Spirit Week beginning tomorrow. Please encourage your students to participate in these fun days beginning with Crazy Hat Day on Monday! We are also looking forward to our first Farm to Table lunch on Wednesday, September 12th. Mr. Hurwitz’s class is scheduled to eat at 12:05 and Mrs. Neil’s class is scheduled to eat at 12:15 if you’d like to join your child in the barn for lunch.
In ELA this week, we will focus on characterization using the short story,”Eleven.” Each student was given a copy of this story and a “Character Sketch” should be written in one strong paragraph by Tuesday. In social studies, we started our unit on Migration and discussed reasons why people may move from one country to another. If your family has an immigration story you’d like to share, please let me know. It would be exciting for our social studies classes to connect their learning to a few real world examples.
Now that Chromebooks have been issued, some questions have come up regarding appropriate use. As outlined in the Chromebook Agreement document, this Chromebook is loaned to your students for academic purposes and improper use of the Chromebook may result in loss of privilege. Students have been instructed that Chromebooks should only be taken home when school related tasks have been assigned and Chromebooks should not be used to play games. Any student using their Chromebook in this manner will lose Chromebook privileges for 24 hours. We appreciate your support with these guidelines. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any concerns.
And finally, a username and password has been sent home with your child for access to PowerSchool. Please let us know if you have any questions about our grade reporting policies.
