Groundhog Disappointment

Although we all were a bit disappointed when Phil saw his shadow this past week, we will still do our best to focus on the coming of spring. On Friday we took a quick hike with Mrs. Flaig to look and listen for signs of spring. We were amazed by the number of birds we heard singing from the treetops!

Even though February is a short month, there is a lot going on at PCCS. On February 14th we will have our PBIS celebration with bouncy houses in the gym. The week of February 13th is our Jump Rope for Heart event. On Thursday of that week, the PE teachers are inviting the classes to come to the Gym during recess to jump rope or play basketball. We will need volunteers for this event. Please let us know if you have time/ interest in helping. Please see our class website for more information about fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart.

After our Biome test in science, we had fun with a demonstration of Elephant Toothpaste. Ask your child to tell you more about our observations. We will do a short unit this week on photosynthesis and then move into Earth science and the reasons for the seasons.

In ELA, we have started our Literature Circles. Everyone has been assigned to a group and each group has a book to read together. There will be daily written assignments to be completed in our ELA notebooks over the next two weeks and a final project will be done the week of February 20th. Many students did not write and/ or return a signed TWAS letter last week in ELA. Please ask your child to continue to show TWAS letters to you so they can be signed and returned to school. These letters are an important opportunity for your students to share school events with you.
