Friday Feature (4/1)

It was so good to see everyone back after a relaxing Spring Break. From the reports of the class, it sounds like they all spent good times with family and friends! We were treated to another delicious Farm to Table on Wednesday. Starting with the Chicken Marsala and finishing the meal with cake made lunch quite a treat. Another huge thank you to all of the parents who volunteer their time for Farm to Table.
As we “wrap up” our Egyptian unit in Social Studies, the class has been hard at work on their pyramid projects. Next week, we will be moving on to our next unit, Ancient Greece. In ELA, we have been presenting our projects for our Literature Circle books. Listening to the good reviews given by their classmates, we suspect that many more of these thought provoking novels will be circulating through our classroom library.
As you may remember, our Green Challenge for March was water conservation. Record sheets have gone home for your child (or your whole family) to track water usage. Through this record keeping process, we hope you can start a family conversation about ways you can reduce your use of water.
And finally, we will begin PARCC testing on Monday. This next week we will be taking the math portion of the test on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and ELA is scheduled for the following week. The complete schedule is listed below. Each student will need a pair of headphones (earbuds are fine) for PARCC on Monday. Also, please try to ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a good breakfast each morning. Although it will be a busy week, we will do everything we can to diminish any anxiety and keep spirits high. If there is any support you feel your child may need during this testing period, please let us know!
The 5th Grade PARCC testing schedule is:
Monday, April 4 (Math 1)
Tuesday, April 5 (Math 2)
Wednesday, April 6 (Math 3)
Monday, April 11 (ELA 1)
