This past Thursday, we had Craig and Alvin come to visit. Many of our first graders are now able to say that they have held the worlds fastest flying animal in their hands! We talked about different kinds of falcons and owls, along with what they eat and their predators/prey. We also learned plenty of new fun facts about them. The students now know about why his feathers grow the way they do, and the distinction between his flight feathers and tail feathers. Also, many of the kids were surprised to learn that falcons do migrate as well!
Lastly, because Alvin was an endangered species, the students held a discussion about what endangered means and how exactly a species may come to be endangered. Ask your student about the different reasons an animal can become endangered, and see what they come up with!
