Another Great Week

We had another busy, yet fun week in school. We began our week with our book buddies and started creating a class book, Food Rules, to go along with our Green Challenge for this month. This week we will be visiting the Food Store – created by Ms. Naomi and Mrs. Flaig – with our book buddies to “shop” for ingredients that make up a healthy meal. On Friday, we took a hike with Mrs. Flaig and collected leaves to identify with a dichotomous key. We also used eight new cameras – generously purchased by PCCS – to photograph some of the beautiful fall foliage as we walked.
In science on Friday, we talked about global use of natural resources and used Oreo cookies to represent how many resources different parts of the world use. This activity always promotes a great discussion among the students about ecological footprints! Ask your child which part of the world they were.
This coming week, we will have three assessments: a science test on Wednesday covering Natural Resources, Sustainability, and Biodiversity, another spelling test on Thursday, and a comprehension quiz on Friday over the first 10 chapters of Esperanza Rising.
There are some great after school clubs your child may be interested in at PCCS. Our very own, Ms. Bonicontro, is making some beautiful things with her Crochet Club, and Frank Swindell is offering a Chess Club. The next session for chess begins on October 24th. Both of these clubs meet on Monday after school. Please email Ms. Bonicontro if your child is interested in crochet and see the school website for Chess Club registration information.
