An Amazing Group

We had a great first week of school and really enjoyed learning more about your students! They are an amazing, enthusiastic group who seem very eager to begin this new school year. We hope your child(ren) felt comfortable in our classrooms and are settling into the routines of 5th grade. If, for any reason, you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. While email is probably the best form of communication, please keep in mind that email responses during the school day can be difficult. You can expect email responses within 24 hours, however, I may not check my inbox until the end of the day when I have more time. If you need to relay a time sensitive message to me or your student, it is best to contact the office and they will call directly to my room if necessary. Thanks!
Last Thursday we took the math portion of the NWEA test, and all 5th grade students will take the reading portion on Monday at 1:00. This assessment is used to guide instruction for the school year. We used our Chromebooks for the test, and everyone was very excited to use them for the first time. If you have not yet returned the Chromebook Agreement form, please do so as soon as possible. Once all of these forms have been returned, we can distribute the Chromebooks to the students and begin using them in the classroom.
Picture day will be on Tuesday, 8/28 and Band Instrument try-out day will be on 8/29 for any students considering band this school year. Friday will be an Early Release day due to a teacher in-service, and we will not have school on Monday, 9/3 in observance of Labor Day. Please mark your calendars, too, for Carson Curriculum Night at 6:00 on Monday, September 17th. This is a great night for parents to learn more in-depth information about our 5th grade curriculum. Please come with any questions you may have about our upcoming year.
For any students looking to join an extracurricular, Ms. Turner is starting a session of CryptoClub for all students in the Carson Building (grades 5-8) on Tuesdays. CryptoClub has students working on math standards through use of cracking ciphered messages, writing secret codes, playing scavenger hunts and racing in jigsaw puzzles. You can find the flyer here; please let Ms. Turner know if she can answer any questions, via rturner@pccharterschool.org.
And finally, please make a note of the Parent Portal login and password: login is : PCCSparents Password is: PCCS@1999-2019
Have a great week!
