Academic Update

I hope everyone had a relaxing break with family and friends! I am happy to be back with everyone, and wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in:

Math: Students have wrapped up our unit on Volume and are moving into studying  fractions. This unit will take approximately 2 months to complete. Covered in this unit are adding and subtracting fractions (with the same and with different denominators), finding equivalent fractions, problem solving with fractions, understanding mixed numbers, and multiplying/dividing fractions.

ELA: Students have begun their dinosaur research. Thank you to all families who were able to make a trip to the library over Thanksgiving break. The remainder of the week will be spent researching, drafting an outline for papers, and starting a rough draft of the essay. Students will also learn how to format a bibliography, appendices, etc.

In word study, students will be given new groups on Wednesday. They will also be given an introduction to our vocabulary activities we will be starting on Friday. Each student will become an expert on 3-4 words having to do with our read aloud book, Wonder.

Social Studies: Students will be performing skits based on the language their band designed. We will then be reviewing our Bones and Stones unit and preparing for the final assessment, which will be a multiple choice/short answer test. We will review in class this week and I expect students will be ready for the assessment either Friday, 12/4 or Monday 12/7.
