A Huge Thank You

Thank you so much for coming to celebrate the success of your students at our Student Led Conferences last week. We were so impressed with the portfolios the students created as well as the presentations they gave. They have made so much progress and we are very proud of their many accomplishments.
As we mentioned in an email last week, all 5th graders will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment on Monday (Mrs. Neil’s class) and Tuesday (Mr. Barber’s class) this week. PARCC testing will begin on Tuesday, March 20th and continue through Thursday, March 22nd. After Spring Break, PARCC testing will resume on Tuesday, April 3rd through Thursday, April 5th.
In ELA, the students have been busy writing a persuasive essay with Mrs. Flaig on a topic of their choice. Student ideas range from allowing chickens to be kept by residents in the village of Gurnee, providing rental bicycles to residents in Grayslake and Gurnee, and putting up “Children at Play” signs in local neighborhoods. Rough drafts of this five paragraph essay are due on Monday.
In science, we have continued our investigation of the water cycle with Mrs. Flaig, and we are creating a pie graph of fresh and saltwater distribution around the world. Mrs. Flaig expects to give a unit assessment by the end of this week.
And finally, just a reminder that we will have an Early Release this Wednesday, March 14th.
