ELA News:

  • Discussed persuasive writing and what makes a good essay
  • Finished the Week 1 slide for our Book Club books
  • Began Week 2 slides (due on November 29, the first day back after Thanksgiving) for Book Club
  • Next week, we will discuss important vocabulary in our books

Social Studies News:

  • Learned more about important people in the time period before the Revolutionary War
  • Discussed the Sons of Liberty and some of the actions taken by this group to empower the colonists
  • Read about the Boston Massacre and the outcome of the event
  • Next week, we will talk about the Intolerable Acts and the First Continental Congress

Shin Math News:

  • Completed their mid-module assessment on multiplication and division of rational numbers
  • Began studying Number Theory
  • Analyzed properties of odd and even numbers
  • Used divisibility rules to determine factors of integers
  • Used the L method to find the LCM between two numbers
  • Next week, students learn to use Euclid’s algorithm to find the GCF

Psimaras Math News:

  • Reviewed how to solve adding and subtracting of fractions with unlike denominators
  • Used ratio table method to discover the better buy
  • Completed Unit 2 Test on Adding and Subtraction of Fractions
  • Will use GCF to simplify fractions and start Unit 3 on Decimals after Thanksgiving Break

Science News:

  • Broadened understanding of solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, and biomass energies
  • Prepared and presented a group newscast through the perspectives of an historian, engineer, investigator and analyzer
  • Will play the Sustainable “Fish Game”
