Dear Parents,
Thank you for dropping off and picking up your supplies on Friday. We appreciate the organizational systems you have at home to help your child be prepared for their classes. Any completed work returned should stay at home. Having a separate folder(s) for Completed/Graded work will help eliminate piles of papers from accumulating. We will talk about these systems in our classes with the students this week.
Math news: Students continued their understanding of fractions and equivalence. We furthered our understanding of order of operations with the use of grouping numbers with parentheses. Adding and subtracting with like and unlike denominators, multiplying, and simplifying fractions will be our upcoming focus. Students will be offered the study of ratios and rates, sixth grade topics, through the fast finisher category on Google Classroom. We are currently finalizing details about the accelerated 5th grade math program.
Science news: Students have learned the environmental impacts of eating a fast food meal. They worked in groups to form a different, healthy meal. We will be discussing the food sustainability cycle and choices people can make to preserve natural resources. Students will experience a simulation of resource availability and profit after playing The Fish game.
EE news: Students also researched and started to share their information about winter pollinators during our EE class. Please enjoy the garlic that was grown in our PCCS gardens!
PBIS visit: We had class discussions this week with Mrs. Gernady and Mrs. Meyer about strategies to address big feelings and frustrations. They brainstormed several things: take deep breaths, find some things to look forward to, read a book, talk with family and friends are some of the take-aways from these discussions. We look forward to future PBIS visits on 11/4, 11/18, 12/2 and 12/16 this year.
