Dear Parents,

Students really enjoyed the Culver’s Lunch today – thank you to our awesome PSO! Also, a reminder of Fall Fest this Sunday 12-4pm. Have a great weekend!

ELA News:

• Completed our personal narrative essays
• Practiced writing a conclusion to “wrap up” a story
• Began listening to an audiobook titled “Six Minute Podcast”
• Next week, we will study our Week 4 spelling words and begin reading the fable “The Miller, His Son, and a Donkey”

Social Studies News:

• Read Time for Kids: Saving a Species and took a quiz on the material
• Began taking notes on the reading, “What Were the British Colonies in America Like in the 1770s?”
• Next week, we will begin reviewing what we’ve learned about the colonies to prepare for our test on Tuesday, 10/26

Shin Math News:

• Completed study of Module 1: Ratios and Unit Rates
• Begin Module 2: Arithmetic Operations Including Division of Fractions
• Construct problems involving division of factions
• Continue use of visual models to represent quotient of whole numbers and fractions
• Understand relationship between divisor, dividend, and quotient

Psimaras Math News:

• Passed back Unit 1 tests and collected for redo correction points
• Introduced standard long division strategy
• Compared money model to fractions and decimals
• Will add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators using clock models

Science News:

• Learned about the endangered Rusty-Patched Bumblebee
• Saw evidence of the declined species since 2000 in the midwest
• Discussed better food choices, an initiative for October’s Green Challenge
• Will read and discuss the “World is a Village of 100 People” to better understand global differences and their impact on the environment
