Dear Parents,

The 5th Grade Team wishes you all a wonderful long weekend! It was a pleasure to see everyone face-to-face during Wednesday’s Supply Pick Up/Drop Off. It was such a nice surprise to receive notes from the students – thank you!

Math news: We appreciate your support at home with your child’s Unit 1 test. We will review the results next week. Along with your child receiving their test back digitally, they will receive a test reflection document in Google Classroom. This document will list any incorrect problem(s) for your child to redo for half points back. We will look at different kinds of mistakes and how to recognize and prevent these types of mistakes in their learning process. Unit Two begins with problems that relate the concepts of money and clocks to fractions and decimals.

Science news: We started the week with watching a short video “If the World Were a Village of 100” based on the book by David Smith. The author used proportions to reduce the population to 100 people and described various perspectives of our world’s lifestyles. We continued with a discussion of sustainability. Next week we will explore specific examples of how sustainable ideas can make an impact on our lives.
