Dear Parents,

We hope you all had a safe, restful, and enjoyable Winter Break. The students were excited to return for this shortened week, and we were happy to see them and hear their new resolutions!

ELA News:

  • Reflected on 2021 and wrote resolutions for 2022
  • Practiced close reading skills with nonfiction text on the Winter Solstice
  • Wrote body paragraphs for our Persuasive Essay, “Should Animals be Kept in Zoos?”
  • Next week, we will review the introductory paragraph in persuasive writing and add to our essay

Social Studies News:

  • Wrote and practiced our skits for the Revolutionary War
  • Created and added a visual element to our skit
  • Next week, we will perform our skits for the class and begin our US Constitution unit

Shin Math News:

  • Assigned a project to research a famous mathematician and to write a biography due Feb. 21
  • Next week, students will look at distances in the x and y coordinate plane

Psimaras Math News:

  • Identified metric examples of units of length, mass, and volume
  • Discussed the metric prefixes and how they relate to the power of 10
  • Practiced metric conversions using acronym KHDBDCM
  • Next week, students will take a Metric quiz on Tuesday and will start Unit 4 Multiplying and Dividing Whole Number and Decimals

Psimaras Science News:

  • Mapped desert, rainforest, grasslands, deciduous forest, tundra, taiga, temperate rain forest, and chaparral biomes
  • Next week, we will continue to discuss unit vocabulary, and animal/plant adaptations as students learn how each biome is unique
