Sam Hurwitz started at PCCS in 2016 as a 6th grade instructional assistant. Since then he has become a 5th grade classroom teacher and has coached boys and girls basketball. In May of 2016 he graduated from the University of Iowa, where he completed his student teaching at Horace Mann Elementary School in a 3rd and 4th grade classroom. Over the summers, he works as a site supervisor at a Buffalo Grove Park District day camp. Mr. Hurwitz feels that nature should be a key aspect of everyone’s everyday life, as he loves to spend as much time outside as he can. He also believes that there are so many life-applicable lessons that the environment presents to us, and students at PCCS have a great opportunity to capitalize on those lessons. Mr. Hurwitz’s favorite childhood book is any book from the Harry Potter series, especially the final one. While Mr. Hurwitz teaches only Math and Science, he is a big history and music fan, and would choose to meet The Beatles or Abraham Lincoln if he had the chance. His favorite sports to play are basketball and volleyball. He is also a big Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and has attended the Rose Bowl. One interesting thing that people might not know about Mr. Hurwitz is that he taught himself to play three musical instruments — guitar, piano, and ukulele.
