Geoff Deigan

Position: Executive Director

Geoff believes that education, equity, justice, and sustainability are the foundational pillars of a healthy environment and are important partners in Creating Natural Leaders.

Geoff’s career centers on creating sustainable environments so that people can be at their natural best to help strengthen themselves and their communities. Using stakeholder engagement and sustainability action, drawing from a balance of principles in environment, equity, justice, and education, he possesses deep knowledge and experience in building resiliency, workforce development, ecological restoration, management and governance practices. He has led organizations and schools in strategies and programs for over 25 years centered on education for sustainability, green collar job training, land planning and has consulted on some of the most exciting green initiatives in the region.

Key accomplishments include; Serving as the longest standing Executive Director at the nationally recognized and award-winning Prairie Crossing Charter School; President and CEO of WRD Environmental, Managing Partner at Greencorps Chicago; and leading an amazing cohort of environmental leaders who are making a positive impact on their communities.

Mr. Deigan has an additional 16 years of experience in nonprofit and corporate settings, in a variety of roles incorporating leadership, management, academic and on-the-ground expertise.  He has served on multiple boards throughout the region, including the Illinois Network of Charter Schools and the Green Schools National Network. He has presented on panels and lectures across the country promoting education for sustainability and environmentally responsible design.

As a 20+ year resident of Lake County, Geoff is a Harley enthusiast and can often be seen traversing through the scenic routes of the roads less traveled with focus on what lies ahead more so than the rearview mirror.
