A New Trimester

As we look back on all your students have already learned and accomplished during the first trimester, we are energized to begin the second! We have so much planned for this trimester and we are excited to get started.

In ELA, any groups that have not yet received words for this week will get them on Monday. These words become WEEK ONE and students will be tested on these words this Friday. We will also begin our next book, My Life in Nature, which is a biography of John Muir. Although this is a shorter book, it’s filled with Muir’s words and work as a naturalist. His life and writing is truly inspirational. As we finish the biography, we will take a class hike – a Muir Trek – with Mrs. Flaig and Ms. Naomi to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us here at Prairie Crossing. I am so proud of your students and their work on our recent five paragraph essay on Esperanza Rising. Reading their essays this week-end has shown me how much their writing has grown! I attended a Writing Conference last week on Wednesday and Thursday, and I am excited to put the ideas presented to work in the classroom!

In social studies, we will continue to study to study the Constitution and the Founding Fathers alongside our investigation into different forms of government around the world. From there we will take a closer look at the three branches that make up the United States government. Although there is a lot of material to cover, we should be able to finish this unit before Winter Break.
