Week 20

Welcome back from Winter Break! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing break. It was nice to see everyone back at school and ready to learn! We got to start our Colonial unit by studying and labeling a world map. This helped the students see where colonists had to travel from to get to the United States. The 3rd and 4th graders were also introduced to the mysterious Roanoke Colony that suddenly disappeared with no trace! In writing, we have started our introduction into poetry. Several different vocabulary words were talked about, such as simile, alliteration, metaphor, etc. We even tried to create our own limericks. They were fun to listen to! In math, the 4th graders learned a new subtraction strategy called “constant difference”. It seems to be a preferred strategy of theirs! Our unit on measurement started with a book with amazing facts about places in the world.

Next week, the 4th graders will continue talking about measuring time, length, volume, and mass. In social studies, we will continue learning about colonial times. We will start to talk about Jamestown, and what it was like to live hundreds of years ago. In writing, we will add more poetry knowledge to the start of what we have learned. Maybe we will even incorporate poetry into our social studies or reading lessons! Please remember that Farm to Table is on Wednesday, so please have your child bring the necessary utensils. ALSO, another Pizza Day is coming up, but we have only received a few forms. Send them on in! Have a great long weekend!
