As summer “officially” turns to fall this week, there will definitely be excitement in the air and in our 5th grade classrooms!
My homeroom had a great time at the Prairie Crossing Farm last Monday, and we learned a lot about organic farming. We also enjoyed sampling some delicious organically grown tomatoes! Tomorrow afternoon, 9/18, Mr. Barber’s class will have their turn to go. If your child is in Mr. Barber’s homeroom, please send a water bottle, clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable walking shoes.
Speaking of tomatoes, don’t forget to sign up on our volunteer page – link is at the end of this email – if you are able and would like to donate food/ kitchen items and/or your time for our Tomato Jubilee event on Friday, September 22nd at 9:00 am. This is always a fun day for students, teachers, and parents, plus you can sample our recipes at lunch afterward!
In science this week, we will continue our review of the scientific method and science variables. In ELA, we will continue reading Esperanza Rising. Chapter 4 should be finished by Monday (tomorrow) and question slides for the chapter (on Google Classroom) are due on Wednesday. We will read and complete chapter slides for Chapter 5 by Friday. On Google Classroom and on my webpage, students can also access an audio version of the book in the event they forget to bring their print copy home or feel they would benefit from an audio supplement.
And finally, we have an Early Release day on Wednesday at 1:00.
