Dear parents,
This week at PCCS, we had another spirited week! On Monday, we went to the barn with our book buddies (Ms. Johnson’s 1st grade class) to learn more about whole vs. processed foods, and planning a meal around that knowledge. Tuesday continued our celebration of Food Week with an assembly in the morning to thank the Kindergarten classes for picking apples. That same day, we ate apple slices, learned new and interesting facts about apples, and listened to podcasts about picking apples.
In ELA, we have begun writing essays about Esperanza Rising to conclude our study of the book. We have also continued our process of choosing a new name for our gym in Social Studies — groups have been organizing their campaigns. In Friday’s Spanish class, we all watched an interesting video on Día de los Muertes — everyone was very engaged! Additionally, in P.E. we are in our disc golf unit — everyone has been in groups of 4 or 5 to practice playing and scorekeeping disc golf.
With Halloween coming up, here are a few reminders about your child’s costume:
- No excessive violence depicted by the costume
- No face masks or hoods which render students unrecognizable
- No “Creepy Clown” masks or “Creepy Clown” face paint
- No weapons of any kind, real or toy

Apologies for the longer email, but there is one last note to make. On Friday morning’s announcements, a few students made a joke during the joke of the day section that was not approved, and regarded this year’s Presidential election. An apology was made over the intercom minutes later, but our class had a discussion afterwards regarding why the joke was inappropriate. It related back to our class’s focus of the week — empathy — and was a very meaningful discussion focused on being respectful of others’ opinions as well as being aware of one’s surroundings. Feel free to ask your child about the discussion we had.
