Mrs. Gehrig earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MA from Columbia College-Chicago and an MAT in Elementary Education from National-Louis. She worked in publishing for many years before becoming a teacher. During summers, she works at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, teaching in the summer education program. In addition to teaching art at PCCS beginning in 2013, Mrs. Gehrig has worked in a Chicago Public School, teaching literacy. She provided intensive reading instruction to small groups of students, aiming to help these students reach grade-level benchmarks.
In her free time, she spends time with her husband and two daughters, reads and goes for long hikes. She also likes to kayak in the summer and cross country ski in the winter.
Mrs. Gehrig feels lucky to be a part of a school as special as PCCS. The dedication to students and the quality of the educational experience they receive motivates and inspires her. She is looking forward to a great year, creating a strong sense of community in her classroom and integrating outdoor education into the core curriculum.
