Also known as the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP), NWEA is a dynamic computer based assessment. A multiple test format is used to assess an individual student’s knowledge in a particular content area. At Prairie Crossing this assessment is given in grades second through eighth, in the areas of Reading and Math, three times a year (beginning, middle and end). This assessment assists the classroom teacher to identify a student’s level of knowledge and determine a starting point for instruction in the content area assessed.

DIBELS

DIBELS or Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills is an assessment tool given to students in the elementary grades three times a year (beginning, middle, and end). Testing takes between four and eight minutes per student to administer and score, and it contains measures (short 1 minute assessments) which enable the user to predict children at risk for later reading difficulties.

At each grade level specific “indicators” are assessed. At the Kindergarten level, Alphabetic Principle and Phonemic Awareness are assessed. At the 1st grade level Alphabetic Principle, Phonemic Awareness and Fluency are assessed. At the 2nd grade level Accuracy and Fluency are assessed. In grades three through six, Oral Reading Fluency  is assessed. Data received from the DIBELS assessment is used to identify students who are not making adequate progress toward important milestones.

AIMSweb

AIMSweb is a mathematical assessment tool given to students in the elementary grades three times a year (beginning, middle, and end). Testing takes between four and eight minutes per student to administer and score, and contains measures (short 1 minute assessments) which enable the user to predict children at risk for computational difficulties.

At Kindergarten and 1st grade the Test of Early Numeracy is given, which assesses a student’s understanding of numerical concepts. In grades two through eighth, a calculation measurement is given to assess a student’s general knowledge of basic facts and numerical processes.

We believe that children are our best hope to improve the world.
