Prairie Crossing Charter School (PCCS), a public school focused on sustainability and environmental education, is excited to be preparing for our Prairie Pedal event to be held on Sunday, May 19th, 2013 in Grayslake!
Prairie Pedal is a family-focused bicycle ride and festival that has garnered a significant amount of support from participants and sponsors over the past 15 years. The event includes multiple bicycle routes to accommodate the abilities and desires of everyone who wants to ride. Nature spots and educational activities are interspersed along the routes, allowing children and adults to gain hands-on experience and enjoy the opportunity to interact with natural open spaces. The bicycle routes will all end at the Byron Colby Barn, where participants can enjoy a meal prepared from locally grown ingredients and a festival with opportunities for event partners and sponsors to engage riders in all sorts of activities!
Prairie Crossing Charter School is a member of Chicago Wilderness and we believe that Prairie Pedal contributes to the Leave No Child Inside initiative’s goal to increase the amount and quality of time that children spend outside. We believe that a wonderful way to do that is to get FAMILIES outside together, providing them with plentiful opportunities to connect to the natural world.
