PCCS currently offers Band:
PRAIRIE CROSSING CHARTER SCHOOL SCHOOL BAND
Instrumental music is offered to all Prairie Crossing Charter School students from grade 3 through 8. Beginning lessons are held weekly on like instruments during the school day. In addition, a beginning band will meet weekly on Wednesday before school. Students who already play an instrument are invited to join as well. Placement is dependent upon their level of ability. All wind and percussion musicians are welcomed and needed. Piano players can play bells. Everyone participates in two concerts during the school year. A number of other performance opportunities occur for experienced players. The cost for the first term through December is $210 for beginners, $260 for returning students, and $65 for the Jazz Band. Cost for January through May, 2015, is tentatively set at $230 for beginners, $280 for returning students, and $80 for Jazz Band. Second term fees are subject to change.
On Monday, August 18, children will attend an assembly to introduce them to the band program and the instruments offered. Students receive instruction on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion. PARENTS OF BEGINNING STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND A MEETING ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 2014 AT 7PM IN MUIR HALL TO REGISTER FOR THE PROGRAM AND SECURE AN INSTRUMENT AND SUPPLIES. ALL FEES ARE DUE AT REGISTRATION. Students should be present to try the instrument of their choice. If needed, a limited amount of financial assistance is available. Some instruments are available for use in lieu of renting. All requests for financial assistance go through Jim Kasprzyk of Music Tutorial Services, Inc. If you are unable to attend the Thursday meeting, contact the band teacher, Jim Kasprzyk, at jimzyk44 [at] gmail [dot] com, or call (847)548-2289 for information and to finalize arrangements. Email works best. Lessons are scheduled to begin September 2.
After school on Monday, August 18, ask your child about the band presentation at school and encourage him to participate. Playing in band places your child in a worthwhile activity that is stimulating, develops intellectual discipline, and leads to a lifetime interest in the fine arts.
For more information send your name and email address or phone number to Jim Kasprzyk, band director, at jimzyk44 [at] gmail [dot] com.
