7th grade: Extra credit opportunity

Extra credit opportunity: Watch one hour of Ken Burns' documentary series "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" on Channel 11 (PBS) and do a short writing assignment. We will be reading about Teddy Roosevelt in class this week and looking at what caused him to become an early conservationist.

  • Choose one of the first three episodes that talks about Teddy Roosevelt, not the later ones that are mostly about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. These air Sunday at 7 pm, Monday at 8 pm, and Tuesday at 8 pm. They may be replayed at other times, so check the schedule below.
  • You don't have to watch the whole two-hour episode. One hour of it is enough for this assignment.
  • Write down three facts you learned from the documentary (3 facts = 3 complete sentences). At the end, tell me what you think motivates Teddy Roosevelt. What is important to him? Give at least two examples to support your idea (3-5 complete sentences). Also, please tell me which episode you watched.
  • Turn in a written copy. If you type it, turn in a hard copy.
  • This extra credit is worth one homework/classwork assignment. To receive credit, give your paper to me by Friday, Sept. 19.

(Written work: Name, date, homeroom in upper right corner. Assignment title goes on the top line.)
